This collection of travel pieces are from my exploration of SE Asia in early 2007. In 2006 at our commencement ceremony, a long-time friend and I were talking about traveling after finishing school. When discussing where to go, I happened to mention the idea of SE Asia, and we both agreed that it sounded like a wonderful place to go. The journey starts with our flying into Ho Chi Min City (Saigon), a bit overwhelmed and without much of a plan of what to do and where to go. From there we set out to explore the beauty of Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos.
This collection contains five pieces that were writen during my journey. They are written in the style of exploratory travel pieces, often in the guise of prose, and contain an anthropological survey from the perspective of a post-Vietnam war generation American. The pieces were written sequentially, and although each one stands alone strong as a splendid tale, and I would invite the reader, in the case that you feel moved to do so, to read the saga from beginning to end. If not, Easy Riding is my favorite, followed by Amazement.
Enjoy :)
